The Perception of Reality

How we perceive our world is determined by our five senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, which are given to us by nature. In people our main sense is sight. However some animals have a different predominant sense, and their senses are often much sharper than those of people so they perceive the world quite differently. Corporeal senses though however accurate don’t show the true picture. How would we observe the world if we were to free ourselves of our five senses, or if we had totally different senses ?

Kabbalah teaches us that in truth there are actually no people, animals, plants, stars, and planets, but rather reality consists of many forces that impact our senses and present a picture inside us rather like a movie.

So how can we begin to perceive this true reality, and start seeing the world as different forces ?

To do this we need to change ourselves. While still living in this world, we need to rise above our own ego, stop perceiving everything only for ourselves and instead try to perceive everything for the sake of others. Only then can we start to interact with the upper force field that surrounds us. We will then see a new world where we are not limited by time or space or by our egotistical thoughts and desires, but instead we will depict everything by altruistic forces, the forces of love and bestowal. Then we will exist both in our world and in the upper world at the same time.

“A person’s perception of reality in our world is determined by our five corporeal senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. They correspond to the five spiritual senses: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut that we feel when we begin to attain the upper world. Therefore, we need to develop these senses inside us in order to attain the upper world. This is fulfilled only if we ascend above our desire to receive.”

The world to come is a reality entirely aimed towards bestowal. We leave our lives in this world as it appears to us now, emerge from this endless egoistic battle in which one devours the others, and rise to another level of being. There we will treat each other with love, as it is written, “Love will cover all crimes,”
